If you didn’t see my post last week, I posted about how important it was for special need moms (and dads) to take care of themselves, but how hard it is for us to do so. I finally had made the decision that it is time for me to do something about my staggering weight. You can read that post here.
The first thing I was proud of myself about was I didn’t cheat at all. I stuck to my “prescription” as they call it. My prescription is three shakes, two entrees, and five fruits and vegetables a day.
Here is a picture of the entrees that we got that will last us for the week. (Now one thing I didn’t mention last week in my blog post, but did on my personal FB page, is that Tony is doing this with me as well, so that’s why there is enough for two people.)
Some days eating that amount of food was a challenge, because quite frankly I got full and wasn’t hungry at the end of the day and I still needed my final shake and one fruit or vegetable. The one good thing is that I can add a fruit to the shake and have it that way, so it’s not as bad. But by the end of the day there was a couple of days that I didn’t want to put any more food into my mouth!
Another obstacle I’ve had to try to figure out how to overcome is taking my medicine in the morning. I’m so used to getting up and while the boys are eating, I’d get a glass of chocolate milk and take my pills with no problems. Now, I am not a fan of taking medication and it has taken me a LONG time to get to the point of being able to even take pills that easily. I have a hard time drinking water, which is something I will be working on as part of this program, but to work on that and work on that to take pills, that’s not going to work right now. It just makes me gag. There were a couple days that I forgot to take my medication because instead of having a shake I had oatmeal for breakfast, which counts as a shake. So I’ve decided that I’m just going to have to have a shake for breakfast and use the oatmeal to make oatmeal bars and cookies, so that we feel like we are still able to have a snack if we should desire one.
When I went to weigh-in on Thursday, I stepped on the scale and saw that my weight was down to 301.2 pounds, for a total loss of 5.6 pounds for the week. I was a little disappointed, because I was hopeful for more; however, I was happy with the result. I’m glad that my hard work paid off. It just showed me how long this is going to take! However, I am in it for the long haul. I noticed a couple days this week that I did have more energy in the mornings. I do now need to start working on adding in the physical activity, which is the goal for this week. So I will update that next week!
Thank you for following on my journey!
